ICLASS-91 AT NIST, WASHINGTON, DC

The Fifth International Conference on Liquid Atomization and Spray Systems, ICLASS-91, will be held July 15-18, 1991, at the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Gaithersburg, Maryland (near Washington, DC). Specially invited lectures will be presented at the beginning of each session at ICLASS-91

   Plenary Lecture:

  • "The Physics of Atomization" N. Chigier, Carnegie Mellon University
  •    Keynote Lectures:

  • "Twin-Fluid Atomization" A. Lefebvre, Purdue University
  • "Experimental and Theoretical Studies on the Structure of Fuel Sprays in Diesel Engines" H. Hiroyasu, University of Hiroshima
  • "Atomization of Liquid Metals for the Manufacture of Metal Powder and for Spray Forming" K. Bauckhage, University of Bremen
  • The full program, including social activities and registration forms, will be sent to ILASS members in April/May 1991. Further information can be obtained from Dr Hratch G. Semerjian, Center for Chemical Technology, National Institute of Standards and Technology, Gaithersburg, MD 20899, U.S.A. Members of ILASS are requested to encourage vendors of equipment and instruments to contact Dr. Semerjian to make arrangements for exhibits at ICLASS-91.

ICLASS-91 - Change in Date for Paper Submission

Many requests have been received to allow authors more time for the preparation of papers at ICLASS-91. The papers committee have given careful consideration to these requests and have a new deadline for submission of manuscripts, January 15, 1991. ILASS members are urged to submit completed manuscripts to Prof. A. Lefebvre, School of Mechanical Engineering, Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN 47907, U.S.A. Authors will be notified of the decision of the papers committee by February 28, 1991. The Conference Proceedings will be published in a NIST special publication.

Abstracts of poster papers of work in progress must be sent to Prof. Lefebvre by March 15, 1991. Send 5 copies of your abstract - one full page in length, typed single spaced on 8 1/2 x 11 inch (215 x 280 mm) white paper with author(s) name and affiliation centered under the title.

    ATOMIZATION AND SPRAYS SHORT COURSE

An Atomization and Sprays short course of intensive lectures and laboratory classes will be held in Washington, D.C. immediately prior to ICLASS-91 from July 10 - 13, 1991. Lectures will be given by Drs. N. Chigier and A. Lefebvre. Inquiries should be addressed to Dr. Norman Chigier, Mechanical Engineering Department, Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA 15213, U.S.A.

    ATOMIZATION AND SPRAYS: THE JOURNAL

Thirty papers have been submitted to the Journal. Volume 1, No. 1, 1991 will be published in December 1990. Authors who have submitted papers to conferences: ILASS, ICLASS, and others are urged to revise their papers to conform to the standards of high quality archival journals. There is no limitation on length of papers. Three copies of manuscripts should be submitted to the editor, Dr. N. Chigier, Mechanical Engineering Department, Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA, 15213, U.S.A.

Annual subscription rates are $135 for institutional libraries and $35 for ILASS members. Send for free sample copies to: Taylor & Francis, Rankine Road, Basingstoke, Hants RG24 0PR, United Kingdom.

ILASS-92 AT THE SANDIA NATIONAL LABORATORIES, CA.

No ILASS-Americas meeting is scheduled for 1991 because of ICLASS-91. The 5th Annual ILASS conference (1992) will be held at the Sandia National Laboratories, Livermore, CA. The Conference Chairman will be Dr. C. Edwards, Combustion Research Facility, Sandia National Laboratories, Livermore, CA, 94551-0969. The Sandia Labs are well known for contributions in the areas of spray and combustion diagnostic development and application.

    NEWS FROM OTHER ILASS ORGANIZATIONS

70 people attended the 6th Annual ILASS-Europe meeting in Pisa, Italy July 4-6, 1990. Twenty four papers were presented dealing with the performance and development of spray instrumentation and on spray applications in combustion. Information about the conference is available from Dr. M Graziadio, ENEL- CRTN, Via A Pisano 120, 56100 PISA, Italy.

    FORTHCOMING EVENTS

ASTM E29.04 Subcommittee Meeting on Liquid Particle Characterization will be held at the Sheraton Mission Palms Hotel in Tempe, Arizona, November 12-13, 1990. All persons interested in the subject should contact ASTM Chairman, Dr. J. Tishkoff, AFOSR/NA, Bolling AFB, DC, 20332-6448.
